“There is an element of ruin in all my work and also a gesture towards repair.” —Annabel Daou
Annabel Daou’s (b. Beirut, 1967; lives and works in New York) artistic practice takes place at the intersection of writing, speech, and non-verbal modes of communication. Her paper- and tape-based constructions, sound pieces, and performances explore the language of power, intimacy, and self-encounter. Daou’s work is often constructed out of lightweight, seemingly ephemeral materials that both indicate and resist a sense of objecthood.
Edited by Rania Jaber and David Markus, Possibilities of Repair provides an overview of Daou’s work from the last two decades of her practice and is complemented by essays by Amanda Abi Khalil, David Markus, Ana Teixeira Pinto, Kathryn S. Poots, Elliot Josephine Leila Reichert, and a conversation between Rania Jaber and the artist.
